About the panellists

Chris Davies, Société Générale, General Counsel, Legal and Compliance, Asia-Pacific

Mr Davies has over 25 years of professional experience in legal and regulatory matters in Asia, Europe and the United Kingdom. His journey at Société Générale started in 1997 when he joined as Head of Legal and Compliance for Asia; 5 years later he was appointed Group Head of Compliance and he is General Counsel, Legal and Compliance, Asia-Pacific since 2013. Prior to Société Générale, Chris was a Director at The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong and a solicitor at Richards Butler as well as at Slaughter and May in Hong Kong.
Chris is also personally committed to educating the next generation of bankers: since 2008, he is a part-time lecturer at Université Dauphine (Paris), where he teaches the students taking the Compliance module of the Masters in Investment Banking.
He graduated from the College of Law of Chester, UK and holds a Diploma in Investment analysis and Portfolio management from Hong Kong Polytechnic University.  

Luca Silipo, Natixis, Managing Director, Chief Economist for Asia-Pacific

Mr Silipo is a graduate of the University La Sapienza of Rome and of the Graduate Institute for International Studies in Geneva. His thesis was on the microstructure of financial markets, more specifically on the volatility spillovers between foreign exchange and equity markets.
Luca started his career as analyst and trader at JP Morgan Switzerland before joining the research department of Bank of Italy as a monetary economist. He further developed his professional experience with Banca IMI in Milan, London and New York. In 2005, Luca became director economist for EMU of Ixis Corporate & Investment Bank and was promoted to managing director at the research department of Natixis in 2007.

Emmanuel Thierry, Mazars, Banking practice leader, Asia-Pacific

Mr Thierry has over 12 years of professional experience in providing assurance and advisory services to international financial services institutions.  He started his career at Mazars in the Paris and Frankfurt offices before joining Mazars’ financial services teams in New York for 6 years. His experience includes advising banks on process optimization, post-merger integration, Basel II and SOX implementation, as well as audit of complex-to-value portfolios, brokers and large investment banking organizations. Currently based in Japan but also operating regularly out of Hong Kong and Singapore, Emmanuel is the Mazars Banking practice leader for the Asia-Pacific region.
He is a US CPA and he obtained a Master in Finance and Strategy from Sciences Po Paris and also studied at the University of Leipzig, Germany.   

David O’Rear,  Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, Chief Economist

Mr O’Rear moved from his native California to Asia in 1980, first to Taiwan and later to Hong Kong where he has lived and worked for the past 25 years in the areas of economic, political and business conditions analysis. After 18 years with The Economist Group, he accepted the post of Chief Economist at the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce. David has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of California, Berkeley, and is a regular commentator on current events in print and electronic media.
At the Chamber, David manages the Economic Policy, Taxation, Legal, Shipping and Transport and Real Estate and Infrastructure committees, and is responsible for drafting many of the Chamber’s submissions to government on policy issues, including the budget and policy address.
