Latest climate targets from Forvis Mazars validated by SBTi
- Near-term and net-zero emissions reduction targets approved by SBTi.
- Commitment includes reducing direct emissions 64% and indirect emissions 34% by 2030.
- Long-term, it will reduce 95% of its direct emissions by 2038 and 90% of its indirect emissions by 2045.
Recognised by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as the most ambitious commitment to global climate change reduction, Forvis Mazars Group and its member firms plan to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045.
In the short term, the firm will reduce 64% of its direct (scope 1 and 2) emissions and 34% of its indirect (scope 3) emissions by 2030. Long-term, it will reduce 95% of its direct emissions by 2038 and 90% of its indirect emissions by 2045.
Forvis Mazars is already starting to meet its target though sustainability initiatives like net zero toolkits for member countries, sustainability focused travel guidelines, integrating ESG risks into enterprise risk management and enforcing a sustainable code of conduct for suppliers.
Key efforts underway include:
- Crafting guidelines to support emissions reduction efforts at every level of the firm – from sourcing renewable energy and switching to electric vehicles to diverting waste from landfill where possible.
- Working with all member firms to reduce non-essential business travel, promoting low-carbon transport modes and actively collaborating with our suppliers to address scope 3 emissions.
- An app that allows our people to monitor emissions associated with their work. Currently in France, the app will be shared across our member firms to empower more employees to take ownership of their carbon footprint.
- Working with clients on their sustainability journeys, from measurement to emissions reduction mapping.
In November 2022, Forvis Mazars pledged its commitment to the SBTi. Since then, it has established a greenhouse gas emissions baseline and developed both near and long-term emission reduction targets. It engaged with key stakeholders in over 100 countries and territories and took local contexts and realities into account to ensure targets are both impactful and realistic.
About SBTi
The SBTi is the only science-based global framework for setting corporate net zero targets. These targets adhere with the Paris Agreement’s goal to limit the global average temperature increase to less than 2°C above the average pre-industrial temperature levels.
